Auckland sprawls over a narrow Isthmus between the sparkling waters of the Waitemata and Manukau Harbours. Auckland is one of the only places outside the tropics where rainforest exists. Award-winning movies like 'the Piano' and popular TV shows 'Xena' and 'Hercules', were all filmed there, give the park an international profile. The harbour, islands and proximity to the open sea ensure that seafood is a local specialty. Exploring Auckland itself is endless but visitors are able to easily commute to the Coromandel Peninsula, and the snowy peaks and deep lakes of the Rotorua and Taupo regions or head North to more beaches.
